Spotted Yellow

Roya is a young girl with a yellow spot on her face. One day she starts to find the signs of a real giraffe in her life, and her ordinary world slowly gives way.

A mark on a face becomes a door. The problem for the stills was tonal rather than technical: photograph a film that treats a blemish as the beginning of a transformation, without tipping into whimsy on one side or medical documentation on the other. The images stay at the level of the girl’s own attention — the spot is neither hidden nor explained.
