A coating is not an object. It has no shape of its own and no silhouette to photograph — it exists only as the surface of something else. So the subject here is texture under raking light, and the images are built around the angle at which a finish stops being a colour and becomes a material.

Shot across finished interiors, where the surfaces have to hold their own against furniture, plants and daylight rather than sitting on a sample board.
